Harold Palin Memorial Rally at Fulbeck
Originally the Luke Sport-Silverstone Rally Subaru Impreza had been converted to rear wheel drive but having to retire 2 times out of 3 outings for mechanical issues, they made a conscious decision to convert it back to 4WD and go and complete amongst the big boys (ex wrc cars). A decision they wouldn’t regret.
The Rally Team Connor Poole (Driver & Luke Sales Rep), Aaron Field (Co-Driver & Luke Online Manager) and Simon Poole (Mechanic & Luke MD) headed up to Fulbeck Airfield in the Lincolnshire countryside. The rally consisted of 8 loose gravel and concrete road stages in and around the airfield.
By the time we were sitting on the start line for 1st stage the nerves had really kicked in, a cloud of dust is all we could see down the 1st straight where the previous car had gone off 30 seconds before. Then we were off and by the time we reached the 1st corner and nerves had disappeared and the adrenaline was pumping. Coming to the end of stage 1 and we had caught the car whom had set off 30 seconds before us, the dust was everywhere, we couldn’t see and a thing and we had a slight off.
After the 1st stage were in 16th place having starting from 21st, as the day progressed the team got quicker and quicker, the car and driver was running in perfect harmony and we finished 8th in the overall rankings out of 54, our best result yet!
A massive thank you to our sponsors Luke Sport, PCS, to the marshals and the guys from the Eastwood & District Motor Club who organised the event.
A few more car modifications are needed but we will soon be completing amongst the elite. Look out for us soon at our next event in November.
