Jaguar Primary Challenge
The competition aims to get young people interested in pursuing engineering careers. School pupils were challenged to build a miniature racing car which would then be tested on a 20m track. ‘Emoji’ a team of 11-year-olds from Ysgol Tycroes won first place at the Coventry finals. Their vehicle travelled a distance of 20m in 0,961 seconds. The judges were impressed by their overall performance and notably by their communication skills, team work and engineering knowledge. The team took home the ‘Fastest Car Award’ as well as the ‘Best Engineered Car Awards. Runners-up ‘Porthcawl Power’ from Porthcawl Primary School were also highly praised by the judges after their car completed the track in just over 1 second. The two winning teams were very proud of their titles, Emoji team captain, Dylan Sollit described the competition as a great experience and was particularly happy to have ‘learnt how to use a 3D printer, laser cutter and Silhouette Studio’. Tegan McGlynn, team leader of the Porthcawl Power said that all the hard work paid off and they were happy to ‘stand on the top of the podium’.
