If you are taking part in the London Marathon or running another marathon soon, the team at LUKE would like to wish you the best of luck!
Here at LUKE we’ve put together a few tips to help you SMASH your marathon;
Fuel Your Body
You wouldn't put diesel into a petrol car, so don’t incorrectly fuel yourself before the big race. Be sure to fill up on those complex carbohydrates (brown rice etc.) for slow release energy, this includes eating breakfast on the day of the marathon, so maybe swap the fry up for porridge this one time!
It is crucial to stay hydrated during the marathon unfortunately beer doesn’t count. There are over 19 drink stations throughout the route, this includes isotonic drinks, energy gels and water, so keep your eyes peeled for those. Save the beers for after the run!
Remember to enjoy your time during the race, soak up the atmosphere and don’t take yourself too seriously! There will be someone dressed as a Smurf a few steps behind you 😉 Believe in yourself, remember to smile and really soak it in while crossing the finish line.
Now it’s time for your essential post run refuel! Studies have shown the average runner will burn off 100 calories per mile during a marathon, which is equivalent to 14 & 1/2 pints of beer or 54 chicken nuggets! You've earnt your post-run treat, so go all out!
