Joe Skipper

Not An Average Joe

8th Oct

Joe Skipper is not your average Joe. He hasn’t had his own way and he's worked really hard to get where he is now.  In 2010 Joe entered his first triathlon initially for a challenge. He was hooked and decided to train with the local tri club (Manchester Tri Club) initially for the social, there were lots of athletes that could beat him so loved the challenge of keeping up with them.

In 2011 Joe won the amateur British middle distance champs and Lucy Gossage (Pro Triathlete) persuaded Joe to turn pro.

In 2012 Joe raced predominantly Iron Man 70.3s coming 5th at the UK one and 15th at the European champs in Wiesbaden Germany. Joe lost his passport so missed Pays D’Aix 70.3 at the end of the year so had no choice but to race Challenge Barcelona Ironman or end his season. Joe was closing in on 1st place with 20k to but got hunger knock and the eventual winner came back to me eventually pulling away and I came 5th in 8h 23.

2013 was a bad year and results were against him. Getting punctures and draft penalties he thought the world was against him and almost quit at the 2013.

2014 results started to go in right direction which enabled him to start pulling sponsors in and  allowed Joe to train full time. This paid off and got a 2nd At the Ironman UK in Weymouth.

2015 has been a fantastic year for Joe. He managed to achieve 2nd place at The Texas Iron Man, along with claiming the bike course record which also happened to be the 3rd fastest Ironman Bike split in history, He had now become the 6th fastest British Ironman athlete of all time!

Some more successes followed in the months after Texas. In June Joe became the first British male triathlete in 19 years to take a medal at the ITU Long Distance World Championships.

July Joe managed to get on the podium again at a tough Ironman UK race. This also meant that he had now accumulated enough points to safely qualify for the 2015 World Championships in Kona.

An incredible achievement and everyone at Luke are wishing you all the best for the World Championships which take place in Kona Hawaii On The 10th October 2015.

Good Luck Joe!
