In October 2007, he claimed the inaugural Portugal Masters title. The win was especially moving because he dedicated it to the memory of his beloved mother Val, who died five months previously. Having dad Terry in the crowd watching him hole the winning putt made the moment extra special for the Englishman whose previous European Tour success had come in the 2005 Telecom Italia Open, a decade after he won the Qualifying School Final Stage.
